We've Been Boo'd

At the beginning of each Halloween season for as long as my kids can remember we have taken to the streets in our darkest of clothing to perform a most loved tradition - BOOING our neighbors and friends.

The thrill of dropping and running, the giggles and stories we tell to each other of almost getting caught, tripping on untied shoes, or having to hide behind bushes and breath ever so quietly has brought us so much joy and we look forward to it every year.

This year however, proved to be difficult. RING cameras have now ruined all the fun. You better believe we will be prepared next year with full face masks (let's all get good use of those COVID masks we bought in bulk) and pillow stuffed clothes - these will add to the fun!

If you're an email subscriber - you got special access to an exclusive "You've Been Boo'd" template. But don't worry - you can still subscribe for more exclusives and fun!

I've created a list of ideas to make your booing experience pain free!

  1. Make sure everyone is fed and happy (we've gone hangry before - trust me - you don't want this).

  2. Go when it's dark and wear dark clothes. With doorbell cams all the rage, bring hats and gloves and cover your face. We will be stuffing our clothes next year to add to the giggles.

  3. Plan ahead! Make sure you have an idea of what the house looks like, where you can hide, and keep the getaway car close but out of sight.

  4. Keep little ones in the car or at home. We started booing when my oldest boys were 4 and 5 and made sure they could run and hide if they couldn't make it to the car.

  5. Store bought treats are a must! The harsh reality is that no one wants homemade treats from a mystery giver - save those for the potluck! I love adding non-food items. Some ideas include a family card game, halloween trinkets, mugs and hot cocoa, or even a gift card for dinner or treats at the local donut shop. But remember - it's just for fun and you certainly don't need to spend a bunch of money. I like to boo 2-4 families at a time and keep the treats between $5 and $10 each.

  6. An added touch is to dress the package! I love being extra so ribbons to wrap it and a ghost balloon tied to the box is always a fun addition.

I purchased all my supplies for inside the box from Walmart! Here's a list of what I used:

Smarties

Halloween skittles

Mini Pumpkin slime

Sticky skeletons and bats

Assorted Halloween erasers

Dracula teeth

Halloween mini stamps

I use the cardboard boxes for so many things! You can find them at your local craft store or purchase them on Amazon here.
